FreeLife Makes $100,000 Donation to Free The Children Plans include “Adopting a Village” and Building a School in rural China |
FreeLife International recently made a $100,000 donation to Free The Children—the largest network of children helping children through education in the world. Ray and Kevin presented the check to Free The Children founder and international child rights activist Craig Kielburger at the recent SERVE 2007 Convention, in Orlando, Florida. |
| The $100,000 GojiKids donation will contribute to all components of Free The Children’s “Adopt a Village” program—the majority of which will go toward the construction of a new school, as well as the cost to educate children in grades 1-8, and minor contributions to health, alternative income, and a water/sanitation program. The adopted village and school will be situated in Gansu province—one of the poorest regions of China. |
| Because FreeLife has developed such a strong relationship with China in the harvesting of the goji berry, when Ray and Kevin learned about the harsh circumstances in the Gansu province—they knew that this was the place to make a difference in children’s lives. |
The Gansu province of China suffers from a high rate of poverty, a lack of clean water, very low literacy rates, and very low access to education programs and proper schools. “It’s an incredible feeling to know that our donation will make a difference that people can see and feel in a community with such a strong need,” said CEO and Co-Founder Ray Faltinsky. “We’re honored to work with Free The Children to be able to serve not just one or two children—but help to uplift an entire community,” said President and Co-Founder Kevin Fournier. |
| Free The Children involves more than one million youth in its innovative education and development programs in 45 countries. Establishing a track-record of success, Free The Children has received three nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize, and partners with the United Nations and Oprah’s Angel Network. |
| Unlike any other children’s charity in the world, Free The Children is both funded and driven by children and youth. Their mission is to free young people from the idea that they are powerless to bring about positive social change, and encourage them to act now to improve the lives of young people everywhere. |
